Tartu, a tastebud adventure

Dubbed the ‘City of Good Thoughts’, Tartu might have a rich history, but its students keep it young at heart. Streets are filled with art and music, nature’s waiting just around the corner, and there’s always something to do — whether you’re a history buff or a sports fan.

A bicycle gets you from A to B. Take your wheels to Supilinn, AKA ‘Soup Town’, a shabby-but-charming district where streets are named after vegetables. Or hang out in Karlova, a Bohemian wooden neighbourhood where local musicians play in tiny bars, and cafes look like someone’s living room.

Dishes here are rustic and hearty — and an admittedly acquired taste. From fermented soup to jellied pork and blood sausage, Tartu is the place to go for bona fide Southern Estonian flavours. Grab a spoon. We’re going in.
