What does kgCO₂e actually mean.
The emissions for your stay are measured in kilograms of CO₂ equivalent (kgCO₂e). This number includes total greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide or equivalent) generated to support your stay, covering energy use, cleaning, water consumption, and more.

what we’re doing right now to reduce our emissions
Leading guests
by example
When you stay with Bob, you’ll see how easy recycling can be, how good vegan chocolate can taste, and how stylish secondhand furniture can look. We’re also working to provide guests with an easy option to offset the emissions caused by their journey to stay with us.
Saving
resources
All the energy we purchase from energy providers comes from 100% renewable sources. We’re also installing reduction tech fixtures in all our new apartments that use less water and up to 9% less energy.
Sourcing
responsibly
We source as many apartment furnishings as possible locally and from responsible partners. Currently, over 50% of furniture is made within 400km of our apartments (and a lot of it much closer), and from 2021, each apartment will feature multiple secondhand pieces.
Sustainable partnerships
From landlords to laundry companies, we evaluate and favour responsible vendors based on environmental credentials that can be proven by certificates (like LEED or BREEAM for real estate) or other measurable factors.
Educating
our team
We’re by no means sustainability experts, and our team is learning a lot along the way. We’re getting educated by creating onboarding materials, hosting talks with experts, and holding a competition among our employees to reduce our emissions.

Our main priority is taking action to reduce our emissions. As we do that, we’re also fully offsetting our emissions by supporting climate action projects which prevent twice as much carbon from being released into the atmosphere as we at Bob W emit.

Hotel carbon emissions ‘five times higher’ than previously thought, new Bob W measurement tool finds
‘LEGIT’ (Lodging Emissions & Guest-night Impact Tracker), a new tool developed by the tech-powered hospitality operator and Furthr, a top tier environmental consultancy, gives guests complete environmental impact metrics for each of its room-types in every property. Bob W now clearly publishes these per-night guest emission numbers on their booking website, their guest app and in its sustainability reporting.

Bob W secures three new Munich properties from H’Otello/H’Apato in landmark deal
Bob W, the tech-powered hospitality operator, has today announced it has signed long-term lease agreements to convert two former hotels and an aparthotel in Munich into Bob Ws as it accelerates its expansion across the DACH region.

Having “done” sustainability informally from the very first years of Bob W’s existence, and having measured emissions in past years, the ambition of Bob W was to look at emissions in detail and get actionable insights, not simply a final figure. At Bob W, reducing our footprint has a been a cornerstone of our internal culture, as well as in the way that we have built trust with our guest community, as a brand dedicated to reducing the environmental impact of our business. As a milestone in this journey, for this year, we have partnered with climate experts Furthr to take our sustainability strategy to the next level.
Furthr is a sustainability consultancy built around a community of climate experts who offer a one-stop solution for businesses and individuals to measure, reduce and mitigate their emissions.
Our collaboration with Furthr is a testament to our commitment to not merely engage in sustainability discussions but to spearhead them. Through our joint efforts, Bob W is not just making strides in diminishing our ecological impact; we are also establishing new benchmarks for accountability in the hospitality sector.
